Bus Transport

Bus Travel

The school student transport scheme provides subsidised travel on rail, bus, ferry and long distance coach services for eligible students.

Tullimbar Public School has available bus travel to and from school for children.  This service is provided and paid for by the Department of Transport.  Certain criteria needs to be meet prior to approval of a bus pass. 

Student conduct when travelling 

* All students who live outside a radius of 1.6 kilometers (as per the crow flies) are entitled to free bus travel
* Kindergarten to Year 2 students are entitled to free bus travel regardless of the distance
* Students need to be outside the Tullimbar Village area to apply or if they reside in this area an application can
   be made based upon special circumstances
*  Only the residential address is applicable
*  All bus pass application forms are now processed via the OPAL CARD.  Parents/carers need to log into opal.com.au

  1. Complete the details
  2. The school will be asked to verify
  3. Opal card is mailed directly to the home address

*  All changes of addresses will need a to be process on-line at opal.com.au.
*  Any replacement bus passes have a fee charge applicable if lost or stolen or stolen.

Kindergarten to Year 2

New students only need to apply to Opal.com.au for their Opal Card. 

The Opal school bus pass will automatically be renewed up to end of year 2.
 

Year 3 to Year 6 

If your child is entering Year 3 from Year 2, a NEW bus application will be required by applying online to opal.com.au

If you reside within the 1.6 kilometer radius of the school (as the crow flies) a letter of support for the bus application needs to go to the Department of Transport for approval for them to pay the bus cost to and from school. 

Currently Tullimbar Public School students who reside outside the village are eligible due to no safe walking route and children would need to walk along a major road (Illawarra Highway).

If you live OUTSIDE the 1.6 kilometer radius, obtain a bus pass application form from opal.com.au complete the details, sign and bring to school for validation of details and the school stamp.

If you live WITHIN the 1.6 kilometer radius, apply online opal.com.au  complete the details, sign the application form, write a letter of support as to the reason a bus pass is required and bring to school for validation of details and the school stamp

STUDENTS IN THE SPECIAL EDUCATION UNITS

Transport for students with disabilities

Students with a disability may be eligible for the Assisted School Travel Program.
Students from these classes may apply for bus travel - please speak to the class teacher as different guidelines/application forms apply.

Transport assistance

The private vehicle conveyance scheme is available to eligible families in isolated or rural areas where there is no accessible public transport. Parents are reimbursed for the costs of driving their children to a transport pick-up point.
